The weeds in my garden are seriously overgrown this year. The poison ivy has turned into a pretty tall shrub, poking its nasty leaves out of my neighbor’s azalea bushes. The leaves are so close to the walking path, I’ve been tempted to go over there with a pair of long clippers and take the bush down to its roots–tempted I’m saying because I’m very allergic to its oils myself, and there may be undesirable repercussions. I saw a really wonderful photo of a soldier recently. It’s the last photo of a series by Scott Nelson for a New York Times article on US soldiers in Iraq. The soldier, Specialist Paul Goodyear, is wearing a headband with a quote from the King James Version of the Bible.

My faith community, Christian Life Assembly, had a Freedom Celebration this year, with music, bands, food, vendors, games, a petting zoo, and fireworks. It drew between 7,000 and 8,000 people. the crowds were so packed into our 52 acres that the police finally started turning people away. Read the rest of this entry »
