Thanksgiving, as an American holiday, is probably my most favorite time of the winter holiday season. It is a “relationship” holiday, a time for celebrating the bonds that connect us to our God, to each other, and to the Earth. Thanksgiving reminds us that we are not “islands” living independent of each other, but brothers and sisters fundamentally bound to each other and the Lord. Winter has come… It started snowing Sunday night, while I was at work. I came out about 11:30pm, to a car covered with wet, slushy snow. Even as I prepare to “hunker down” here on Reesers Summit today, feeling the stress of having to adjust to new financial pressures, car insurance changes, uncertain living arrangements, and ordinary human frailties, the Internet brings me news of other folks across my world whose lives are in states of psychological, emotional, and physical stress. It’s supposed to snow Friday night. After a very mild Fall, and weather in the 50 to 80 degree range for most of October, Nature has suddenly turned the Susquehanna Valley cold. Daylight Savings Time ended last weekend, so it’s darker earlier and grayer longer.
